The Point

Forget safety. Live where you fear to live…

My friend and I were driving down the mountain after a day of skiing chatting in a conversation that bounced from one thing to another. When I asked her a question about being in love she said, “I’ve always been in love” and turned to me with a look that said, you know what I mean, “with life,” she finished.

She’s right. I know that feeling, that way of living. It’s one of the common threads that drew us together.

I have so many quotes about love going through my mind on this week leading up to Valentine’s day. A day, a week, we can use to inspire us to love in new forms, outside our usual habits and containers.

The first quote is not directly about love, but it leans into it because we can hold so many fears when it comes to loving, being loved, trusting that what we love will sustain us prosperously.

But for this we were made.

“Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious.” Rumi

“Love is not the greatest power in the world. Choice is. With choice, you choose whether to love, how much to love, if to love, who to love, when to love, why to love, how to love…” , Carolyn Myss.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Rumi

“Do what you love and sell the love.” Wayne Dyer

“Work is love made visible.” Kahlil Gibran

“Love your neighbor as yourself” (or some version thereof in all the spiritual traditions).\

Even though love is powerful, there is an ineffable something with which we direct our love, interact with love, decide how to love, that dissolves our barriers to love.

I know I have my lines in the sand of what feels fluffy to me and where I won’t go, or more accurately, where I haven’t gone yet. I also know how much I’ve changed in my expressions of love, receiving love, and to hold nothing back.

There is a line in a Clint Black song that I have lived by, that he articulates so well…”I would never let you wonder what I want you to believe.” So I do my best to make sure my friends, my family, my clients, the wait staff, the people who help me, know how much they are loved, because no matter what we are doing, the love is what they will “get.”

As I continue to delve deeper into my true nature, shedding energetically what isn’t true, I keep discovering more love, how expressive I really am and can be. Places I held back that I thought were ‘just the way I am’ no longer exist. Places that I thought were part of my culture that I would hold constantly are gone, opened to more love, more radiance, more boldness, more silence, more giving in this continuous circuit of gifting and receiving with life in all its forms.

Whatever your work in the world, love is the point. Find creative ways to send love in a different way this week than you normally would.

“Forget safety. Live where you fear to live…”

We make many assumptions that the people in our lives know how we feel. Don’t leave them to wonder what you want them to believe, in every corner of your universe, your workplace, your friends across the globe and across the street.

There is no limit to love and why would you want to? Move it. Spread it. Be wise with it. Be uncomfortable with it. Keep it in motion.

Live Yourself Extraordinary.
