Some of my favorite relatives and bosses and teachers have been the gritty ones. I like the puzzle-cracking challenge of earning their respect. Besides that, I know I can trust them. The pluck of their gruff exterior doesn’t come from anything passive-aggressive. I’ll know when I’ve crossed the line, what they think, and in the process discover a warmth and a love and an indomitable spirit that all that pluck is there to protect.
A few days after I wrote this Monday Wisdom, the following quote crossed my radar…
“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” ~ Anais Nin
I am so grateful for the worlds each person that has crossed my path has opened and drawn out of me; the parts of myself made visible and known to me, if not to others, had it not been for a little grit and joy. The parts unknown until they pulled it like a magician from behind my ear. The parts forgotten until they found it right where I’d left it—inside me. And the parts in me that opened worlds in them, when they were willing.
Because of you, and you, and you, I opened my heart; I have work I love; I learned boundaries; I discovered my gifts; I rediscovered my athletic self; I value beauty, elegance and tradition; I love learning; I had that awakening, and that one; I listen; I laid down that defense; I trusted myself when no one else believed; I explored that topic; I live purposefully; I know that darkness; I have my laid back fiery nature; I persevered; I created my own degree; I play; I did a round-off back handspring; I left; I re-connected with my passion; I sing; I run; I love heirloom tomatoes and garden; I know real joy; I love wild horses; I write; I enjoy the intellectual; I cultivate my own spiritual path; I live an intuitive life; I swear; I have my own business; I love organic, artisan foods; I sail; I hike; I love quality…
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
